Best Washington State Elopement Locations
I am definitely biased but the Pacific Northwest is the best place to plan an epic elopement. With three National parks, the coast line and several mountain ranges, Washington is a beautiful place for an adventure elopement. Here is a quick list of the most epic pacific northwest elopement locations, according to an adventure Washington elopement photographer.

Western Washington Elopement Locations
Olympic National Park, Washington: Majestic mountains, lush rainforests, and rugged coastline
Ruby Beach: Dramatic sea stacks, tide pools, and driftwood-strewn shores. It’s cold but magical!
Hoh Rainforest: Ancient trees draped in moss and lush forests lined with ferns about 40 minutes from Ruby Beach
Hurricane Ridge: A truly unbeatable view of the Olympics on the north side of the park.
Snoqualmie National Forest, Washington: Lush forests, beautiful waterfalls and crazy mountain views, easily accessible to the Seattle area
Gold Creek Pond: A breathtaking mountain view with a perfect lake reflection. This super easy hike surrounds the entire lake.
Snoqualmie Falls: The nationally known, epic waterfall towering over 268 feet.
Franklin Falls: A short hike to a picturesque, slightly more private waterfall.
Twin Falls: Two waterfalls into a mossy canyon, perfectly secluded.
Rattlesnake Ridge, North Bend: A moderate 5.3 mile hike with beautiful views of the mountain
Mount Rainier National Park, Washington: Known for it’s wildflowers, glacial mountain view and serene lakes.
Paradise, Mount Rainier: Wildflower meadows and an easily accessible view of the mountain. For an epic viewpoint, Skyline Trail is gorgeous. For a shorter hike, try the Nisqually Vista Loop, which also provides beautiful views of the mountain and Nisqually Glacier.
Sunrise Point: It’s namesake, this is the perfect view of the mountain at Sunrise. The Sunrise Rim Trail is an easy hike that starts from the Sunrise Visitor Center and leads to amazing overlooks of the Emmons Glacier and surrounding peaks.
Tipsoo Lake: The perfect lake to reflect views of Mount Rainier. The Tipsoo Lake Loop Trail is an easy, family-friendly hike that circles the lake.
Other Areas in Washington
San Juan Islands: These idyllic islands offer beautiful views and a fun adventure by ferry boat. Roche Harbor is a perfect little beachside town if you are hoping to find a tiny chapel overlooking the water.
North Cascades National Park: Remote alpine lakes, rugged peaks, and views for miles. Sahale, artists point and picture lake are all famous areas for elopements.
Columbia River Gorge, Oregon/Washington: Waterfalls, cliffs, and scenic overlooks all along the gorge.
Deception Pass State Park: Rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, and the iconic Deception Pass Bridge.
Enchantments, Leavenworth: Rugged mountain peaks, alpine lakes near a picturesque little German-inspired town.
Choosing Your Washington Elopement Location
The beauty of eloping in Washington is that you truly can’t go wrong whether you’re drawn to the coastline, alpine lakes, or moody forest trails, every location is just magical. The key is choosing a place that feels aligned with your experience, your comfort level, and the kind of memories you want to create together.
As you narrow down your options, I highly recommend using AllTrails to research potential locations. You can filter by difficulty, read recent trail conditions, check elevation gain, and get a realistic sense of timing. All things that matter more than most couples expect when planning an elopement day. Pay attention to accessibility, parking logistics, and how crowded a trail typically is, especially during peak season.
Location Permits
When it comes to permits and legalities, every location is a little different. Many Washington elopement spots, especially within national parks or protected areas, require a special use permit for ceremonies, even small ones. Always check the specific land management site (National Park, Forest Service, or State Park) to ensure you’re following current regulations.
Wedding Licensing in Washington
If you’re planning to elope in Washington, the legal process is simple but it does require a little bit of advance planning (this is not a “show up and sign” state).
1. Apply for your marriage license
You can apply through any county in Washington (it does not have to be the county where you’re getting married). Most counties allow you to start the application online and then finalize it in person or by mail.
You’ll need:
- A valid government-issued photo ID
- Basic personal information (including Social Security numbers, if applicable)
- To be 18 years or older and currently unmarried
2. Pay the license fee
Fees vary slightly by county, but most fall around $60–$170.
3. Wait 3 days
Washington has a strict 3-day waiting period.
This means you need to plan ahead and cannot legally marry the same day you receive your license.
4. Get married within 60 days
Once issued, your license becomes valid after the 3-day wait and must be used within 60 days, or you’ll need to reapply.
5. Have an officiant + 2 witnesses
Your ceremony must be performed by an authorized officiant (judge, ordained minister, etc.), and you’ll need two witnesses present.
6. Sign and return the license
After your ceremony, your officiant will return the signed marriage certificate to the county (typically within 30 days) so your marriage is officially recorded.
